Responsive website with a modular homepage and book pages, custom interactions, and client-accessible news & event page
Joshilyn Jackson's author website redesign focused on creating a platform to complement and elevate the atmosphere of her novels. Joshilyn wanted her new website to represent her genre shift into thriller and domestic suspense novels, while still showcasing her previous eight works of Southern Fiction. Toeing the line between murder mysteries and domestic drama, Joshilyn's books evoked imagery of the unknown invading the home. I pictured Victorian mansions with dark, curving staircases, sparse dimly lit rooms, and large windows with someone peering in from the outside. That imagery was paired with the rich, cool-toned color palette of her recent work and strong, defined fonts that didn't get obscured by visual elements.
I expanded her homepage from a singular hero section to a full, interactive showcase of the site's main features - Joshilyn and her novels. The book pages invited you to dive deeper with their prominent book covers, purchasing links that unfurled under your cursor, and atmospheric background imagery that stayed fixed as you scrolled down the page.
Designing and building custom sections for the book pages allowed me to integrate additional content like audiobook samples, video trailers, and reading guides. From this website build and design, I discovered my passion for modular and responsive site design as a way to combine interesting visual patterns with fluid, yet structured content.
